Acting as an agent for the State of Georgia Department of Revenue, the Motor Vehicle Department collects all taxes, fees, and penalties due; ensures compliance with EPA-mandated vehicle emission testing; validates insurance and collects vehicle liability insurance lapse and suspension fees; processes and verifies motor vehicle title documents; issues license plates and registrations; oversees the motor vehicle kiosk program; administers disabled placards and senior waivers.
NEW: In-Person Service Fee for DMV Debit/Credit Card Transactions
Beginning October 1, 2025, a 1.8% service fee (minimum $1) will be applied to all in-person debit/credit card transactions for motor vehicle services. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, in addition to all digital wallets.
