Acting as an agent for the State of Georgia Department of Revenue, the Motor Vehicle Department collects all taxes, fees, and penalties due; ensures compliance with EPA-mandated vehicle emission testing; validates insurance and collects vehicle liability insurance lapse and suspension fees; processes and verifies motor vehicle title documents; issues license plates and registrations; oversees the motor vehicle kiosk program; administers disabled placards and senior waivers.
NEW: In-Person Service Fee for DMV Credit Card Transactions
Beginning October 1, 2025, a 1.8% service fee (minimum $1) will be applied to all in-person credit card transactions for motor vehicle services. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, in addition to all digital wallets.

AFV Exemption Expired September 29
If you own an Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV), please be advised that per the Federal Highway Administration, AFVs are no longer be exempted from using High Occupancy Vehicle and Toll lanes as a single occupancy vehicle as of midnight on September 29, 2025.
