The Tax Service Associate I is responsible for providing assistance to customers in person and/or over the phone regarding tax/tag issues. Duties include reviewing various documents and making necessary changes, collecting payments from customers and keeping daily records of receivables, maintaining various records and files related to the tax/tag department, preparing various correspondence and reports for the department or external customers, maintaining inventory of supplies and performing other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of customer service or related experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  •  Or, and equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

 

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above:
  • Property tax related experience
  • Must be flexible with work schedule and hours
  • Work assignments may be at any DMV location and reassignments can be made at any time

 

 

Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a background check is required to include motor vehicle and criminal histories.

The Delinquent Tax Collector is responsible for collecting delinquent ad valorem taxes and fees from property owners. Duties include investigating individuals and businesses, performing field investigations, seizing property and issuing citations for the purposes of tax collection. The position may also be responsible for monitoring bankruptcy notices, dismissals, hearings, deadlines, and motions, and for taking action as appropriate.

Essential Duties

  • Investigate and research individual and businesses for the purpose of tax collection and code compliance.
  • Maintain and understand current laws related to codes and compliance of same.
  • Perform independent field investigations to collect taxes, post levy notices, seize property and/or issue citations for the purpose of code enforcement and completes reports detailing findings.
  • Research property information by reviewing plans, accessing databases, and contacting other departments.  
  • Prepares monthly lien filings, affidavits, and cancellations for appropriate authorities.
  • Reviews all documentation, accounts, notices for property tax sales and co-conducts auctions. Also, reviews documents and claims related to post tax sale as it relates to excess funds.
  • Performs other duties similar in nature.

Other Job Requirements/Information
  • Valid Driver's License from state of residency
  • Must be deputized as Ex-Officio Sheriff within 3 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in related field; AND
  • One year of tax or collections experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Experience with Real Estate, Business, and/or Bankruptcy Law

Department of Motor Vehicles

Collects all taxes, fees, and penalties for motor vehicles applicable under the Georgia code • Ensures compliance of EPA-mandated vehicle emission testing • Validates insurance and collects vehicle liability insurance lapse and suspension fees • Processes and verifies motor vehicle title documents • Administers disabled placards and senior waivers 

Department of Property Tax

Bills and collects ad valorem taxes, fees, and special assessments • Administers and audits homestead exemptions • Issues and enforces tax executions for delinquent accounts • Coordinates the delivery of IT services

Department of Finance & Accounting

Carries out all finance and accounting functions for the GCTC • Prepares finance and accounting reports • Manages the budget process • Provides operational reports to measure efficiency and performance • Ensures compliance with governmental reporting standards

Develops and executes internal and external communications • Handles media relations • Oversees employee recognition program • Monitors customer communication and satisfaction • Oversees the customer call center that responds to inquiries regarding motor vehicles and property tax
